Jack has enjoyed a full life and purchased the motel to slow down. His biggest regret is never finding someone to share his life with. Several of his relationships have ended in miserable failure. Like most things in his life, Jack got more than he bargained for with the motel. The planned, quiet and slow life didn't work out.
