This book is about a young man from an ordinary blue-color Russian family, who went through a long, complicated, and difficult journey before becoming a cinematographer and director of photography for feature films, and about many remarkable, unique, and talented people he met along the way. The book tells about the behind-the-screen side of the Soviet cinema, adventures on the set, bitterness of failures, the price of success, injustices, and moments of triumph. The last part of the book is devoted to the emigration to America, reasons that forced him to leave his old country, what happened on the way, and how the life unfolded in the new place. The book also tells about mystical coincidences and happy accidents, so abundant in life, as well as love, faithfulness, and friendship.
