A deer that some believe has supernatural powers and others believe the deer may be a representative from the netherworld. A bounty was offered for the hide of the animal, a bounty for killing the animal brought in hunters as well as sightseers from all across the Western Oregon landscape resulting in problems for local law enforcement as well as adventures by greenhorns that included cult followers, bounty seekers and others. Some adventures ended in disaster, most ended in failure. Some local Indians believed that killing the deer would bring bad fortune to the hunter as well as the family of the individual that killed the deer.
