I am not Southern, in fact, I'm not even American, but I sure do love the South. I love almost everything about it! The casualness of wearing jeans, boots and flannel shirts, horse-riding in the country, rocking chairs on the porch, and, above all else, the food! The South really knows how to make good, homely and comforting food, whether it's Biscuits & Chocolate Gravy for breakfast, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with Tomato Soup for lunch, BBQ Ribs for dinner, Sweet Potato Pie for dessert, or Sweet Tea to wash it all down with, this homely, country cooking really knows how to deliver big on flavour. There is still a lot of the South that I have yet to travel, being, as there are, many states that are considered Southern. The definition of 'Southern states' can change, but most often includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia & West Virginia. The landscape of this country is vast, prairie lands, mountains, lakes, rivers, grasslands and everything in between, and it's so beautiful! Well, even if you don't make it there to see it for yourself, you now have 40 dishes that you can make and enjoy at home, whilst dreaming of that land far away. If you're not yet convinced, let me name to you some of the foods that make up a huge part of Southern cooking - sweet potatoes, pecans, peanuts, corn, bananas, crab, ribs, ham hock and so much more. To me, all of those are food 'buzz words' that just get me chomping at the bit ready to get cooking, and best of all, get eating!
