After spending 25 years in Senior Management for multiple Fortune 500 Companies, as well as currently being the Regional Operations Manager for the world's largest day-labor provider, I was thirsting to reflect and share with aspiring business professionals. With that said, as my experiences allowed me to work with young males, several things had become blatantly apparent. The systemic mindset, which ultimately shapes us, starts at a very young age. Knowing that these obstacles will continue to perpetuate and exist, I set a goal to get as many young men that may not have a male influence in their life to understand the importance of self-care. Self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness during periods of stress. Whenever you feel yourself falling off track, attempt to reflect on the fact that "Polishing Your Appearance" is more than a state of mind. To be clear, this is not a story about my shortcomings in life. Rather, it is a story about how my mother, Red, began the process of Polishing My Appearance.
