Love on a Rusty Spur is a modern faery tale. Iris Silberstein, widowed in her late 40s, moves to Cedar Hollow with her Akita Juno, her "spirit guide in training." There, she meets Michio "Michael" Kurosawa, an older man whom she decides is "a mess," but worth rehabilitating. For his part, Michio is intrigued by the woman's new-age spirituality, her claim to be a rainbow faery from the eighth dimension, and her sincere belief that she is also the twin flame of the archangel Gabriel. Michio is spiritually-inclined, but is the product of his traditional Buddhist-Catholic background, the son of a Japanese father and Irish mother. Thus begins an otherworldly dialogue, an ethereal wisdom quest and a powerful romance.
