When a monstrous earthquake strikes, Victor Kowalski plunges through a chasm in a hotel floor, and is entombed in impenetrable blackness with a man who calls himself "Bruce." As the air thins and death grows close, Victor, a born-again Christian, prays for a painless passing. Following suit, Bruce asks God to forgive him for his sordid sins, including having seven people murdered to "get to the top." And they order President Douglas to resign in one month.

The mighty NSA cannot locate Jack and Jill. President Douglas refuses to step down, threatens to kill Victor and his family if he does not retract his ultimatum, and Jack and Jill periodically launch cyber-attacks to compel Douglas to resign.
