Since Julia's passing, Harold had been feeling like he didn't have much to live for. He's a retired music teacher with no wife, no children, no purpose. He's not suicidal - in fact, as much as he is ready to die, the thought of taking his own life scared him more than the thought of continuing to live. It wasn't until Harold moved to a ruddy apartment and met eleven-year-old, Isobel that he gained a new perspective. A precocious girl, Isobel is always dancing and humming to herself, too bored to live in the real world. They start doing everything together - from watching Manchester United, overcoming bullies, to playing the piano. It's the unlikeliest of friendships. But it's through each other that they learn the beauty of growing up and simply living.
