Grey Matter: An Ode, is a story of rebirth. Each poem represents a time in my life where I felt I was at my lowest, or a turning point in my life that helped shape who I am. In a sense, the completion of this book helped me further my self-discovery process. I deeply believe that we, as humans, have ever changing personalities. Furthermore, I'm constantly told that your 20's will bring you a variety of changes or temporary forevers (as I like to call them). It was with that realization that I came to peace with a instrumental part of my adulthood: Never be afraid to start over. I've heard the phrase many times before, but it's different when you are actually forced to live by what you say. I've already experienced so many life lessons (referring to life's EXTRA tough lessons), which forced me to listen to many mantra's, such as the one previously mentioned, that encourage and inspire the down spirited. I had to understand that in order to activate the ability to change my attitude, mood, situation, and life course in general; I must first change my vernacular as well as my mindset toward life. It was with this thought process that I wrote poems such as "20 ", "Unbreakable", and "Red Tape". These poems are just surface level when it comes to the depths of it all. In order to see change, I had to first kill off all the unwanted negative energy and ways of thinking, and replace it with positive affirmations. I CAN ... so I did. This is Grey Matter: An Ode.
