My name is Maliek. I'm from Lynchburg, Virginia and moved to Detroit at 11. After my mom passed I found It difficult to "fit in" with then I assumed too sophisticated kids I was new to in Michigan. I attended Bates academy and Detroit Renaissance High School. Also became a creative in my times alone. Overtime I began to break out of my shell with sports and as I matured, so have lasting friendships I've made. I'm introducing myself because recently I've written and illustrated my first children's book. The subject matter concerns the serious topic of police violence which has affected many people in recent years. I noticed this and My approach to change was different. I decided reacting violently only leads to hurting myself and my community. So instead, I've chosen to lift up us all and shed some light on this serious topic. I call it, Raashad is Sad for a reason. All I request is possibly to sit down with you. That would directly assist to get this out to the people. I realize the opportunity here that possibly could inspire others, especially youth to make change in a positive yet unique way of their own.
