American Emil LaMoore is working on his uncle's winery in France when World War One breaks out. His love of flying leads him to enlist in the French Army Air Corp as a pilot. Flying an observation plane over enemy lines, photographing the battle fields, he is soon caught up in the combat side of the war. While home on leave, the local girl he has eyes for breaks his heart leaving him with an empty feeling. As months go by and he is making a name for himself, he sees a woman that catches his heart right away. There is a problem with this though, she wants nothing to do with him and he must use his charms and wit to try and win her over. By a cruel twist of fate they are separated from seeing each other towards the end of the war and he must now figure out how to get back to the woman that fills his dreams at night.
