The year 1969 is best known as the year that man first set foot on the Moon's surface. In 1969, you could buy a house for about $15,000; gas averaged 35 cents a gallon; average annual income was $8500; and a new car could be easily purchased for under $3000. Even Sam Walton realized his dreams and incorporated Wal-Mart Stores in 1969. That Fall, up to 500,000 people descended on a farm in New York State and raised havoc at the most famous music festival of modern times in late summer of 1969. Perhaps unknown to the rest of the world, during this same year while Armstrong was doing the two-step on the lunar surface; out west in a small city in South Central Idaho, a rag-tag kid-league baseball team with a rookie coach and a greenhorn sponsor set their little town on fire and made a formidable name for themselves by achieving, in our minds, the equivalent of a Lunar landing. With an unparalleled focus and vision, our little clan of comrades overcame tremendous odds, financial hardships, and even medical peril to rise from the dregs of the Knothole Baseball League to the highest honors possible. All of this was accomplished while mega industrialists were beginning their quest; half a million people were grooving to far-out music; and men were walking on the moon. Although our feat didn't make the news and isn't written about in the annals of world history, it is nevertheless written in the hearts of those who experienced it.
