There must be a reason why we love beaches and coastlines. Aside from their aesthetic and leisurely value, humans have been drawn to the water's edge since ancient times. In this book, we shall explore this history and reveal a great mystery about our past. For not only does humanity and the sea have a deep relationship, but life in aquatic and coastal ecosystems has made us who we are today. It has impacted our evolution as a species and shaped the growth and development of civilization. Furthermore, shifting weather patterns and sea levels, along with the use of advanced seafaring vessels by indigenous peoples dating back to the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic era, can explain how, why and when we migrated around the world.
