John Shine loved drinking. But he loved his family too. He served in the Army, but he was a peaceful man. He believed in God, but not the Bible. If you were to add up all the good days and all the bad days, it would average out to a mostly idyllic life in small town Summerville. John Shine got along with almost everyone except the preacher who kept trying to cram doctrine down his throat. He even got along with his boss except on days when he was late due to a previous night's bender. When the unthinkable happens, John's confidence in everything he thought he believed is suddenly brought into question. How can he reconcile what he's always known with what he just lived through? This story is warm, humorous, and endearing as it follows John's antics, decisions, and the cast of characters he pulls inspiration from whenever he is trying to charm his way out of something.
