He went to review a movie. He ended up reviewing his life. Charles Winkleworth had it all. A solid job as an associate editor for the (second) most popular newspaper in the city, a high-school sweetheart wife and a trip to Hawaii. All he had to do, on January 1st, 1991, was review a movie.
He did not leave the theater until December 1991.
With one unspeakable act, Charles finds himself hiding in the theater. Surviving off day-old popcorn in the garbage and soda pop, Charles comes to the realization he hates his job, his relationship, and his life. As Charles tears his old life apart piece by piece, he is given the chance to rebuild himself a new man with a new purpose.
That is, if he survives the riots, fires, floods, dead bodies, SWAT teams, camps of homeless people, automatic ticket takers, falls from great heights, gumball machines and staff members of his new home. In the dark of the movie theater, Charles is going to find something a lot more important than a good film. He is going to find himself.
