UNTIL A HUNDRED YEARS AGO, EARTH HAD REMAINED UNDISCOVERED AT THE FRINGES OF THE GALAXY. HOWEVER, UNLIKE OTHER PLANETS WITH A PRE-DISCOVERY SENTIENT POPULATION, EARTH WAS VERY DIFFERENT. THE GALACTIC ORDER WAS QUICK TO REALIZE - EARTH HELD THE KEY TO THEIR VERY SURVIVAL. The Zin hegemony was sliding into senescence - it was losing the unique ability to mind-link to the ancient space ships that bound the galaxy together. It was an age-old cycle, and like the others that had preceded them, the Zin were mounting a determined rear-guard effort to persevere. The Zin salvation - or doom - came from a chance discovery of an uncharted planet whose inhabitants, quite unexpectedly, shared the Zin's unique piloting skills. Jack Compton was one of those few "talents" recruited as potential military space fighters. For Jack and his cohorts, the training began with mentally projected video games. One day, the virtual training transitioned to the real thing. A "simulated" flight to the moon was no simulation. On the moon they were met by a collection of aliens - Zin, Rashkie, and Quin. The humans weren't as good as the Zin - they were far better. And as good as the humans were as a group, Jack's ability was orders of magnitude superior. The Zin dilemma: formally recruit the humans into the Universal Compliance Force, or destroy Earth and its potential before it fell into the hands of Rebels - who had their own plans on how to use this human potential. Jack's prowess was pivotal. The Zins failing in their efforts to control him, were left with no choice but to kill him. Narrowly escaping with his life, and forced into hiding on the lunar garrison, Jack discovered latent powers that hadn't been seen in the galaxy for millennia. Powers that he could barely control, but if tamed could bring human ascendancy to the galaxy; but untamed, could destroy Earth.
