Dr Emily Jenkins is a very old and distinguished physician living in Norfolk, near her birthplace. She has observed the effects of mounting and numerous anthropogenic, existential crises which include climate change, sea-level rise, burgeoning populations, whose need for food exceeds the Planet's ability to feed them, soil exhaustion, loss of antibiotic efficacy such that many illnesses previously treatable, no longer are, increased prevalence of diseases of all kinds and most importantly, a steady decrease in human male fertility that puts the human race in danger of extinction. She describes the measures put into place in an attempt to offset these threats. At the time of her finishing her account, the success of these measures is not certain oif success.
