Do we strive towards a commodity induced Dystopia, or towards a general welfare Utopia? Is the Orwellian surveillance archetype a real danger we should fight, or is it a fear caused by the mythical power of technological advancement?Utopia and Dystopia, two abstract concepts as old as civilization itself. Two contrasting ideals that would shape the states of humankind and guide them either towards one or away from the other. However, how did these paradigms come into existence and why it is so hard to "institute" a perfect representation of any of them?Moreover, what do these archetypal brothers mean for us today, when technology empowers us to connect with the whole world and have everything at our fingertips? Will they remain at the theoretical level, with some states affected by a characteristic of one or another, or are they looming over the horizon?
