Valerie was only an infant when she was given up for adoption to Mr. and Mrs. Piggly. The Piggly's own and operate their own grocery store-Piggly's Grocer-which also doubles as an orphanage. Valerie has spent all her life with her adoptive parents, and now, on her 18th birthyear she is asked to move out once her replacement-a human infant-comes to take her spot. Then, Mr. Piggly falls deathly ill, Valerie will embark on a journey to the Kingdom of Melfron for an experimental treatment which may help the sickly swine. However, in exchange for her travels, she requests full guardianship over her siblings upon her successful return. Mrs. Piggly agrees to the terms, but if Valerie fails to return within five days, her siblings will soon be on a heavenly journey of their own.
