A poignant, warm, heart-breaking and funny timely-snapshot of English working-class, small-town adolescence and the hidden internal and external world of 15 year old, John Watts. Never talk about David Watts; that was the unwritten rule. It is Summer 1987, just before the release of The Smiths final album, and John believes that he will never escape Monkey Island; a community left devastated by the Miners' Strike. Introspective, self-critical and handsome, John feels trapped and a series of poor decisions sets him adrift from his thoughtful, book-loving girlfriend and his gregarious, sexually-charged and hard-as-nails best friend. Infected by isolation and secrecy, John begins to question his sanity when he hears the voice of his dead-twin. Pursued by local football hooligans and discarded from his sporting team, for John it feels like the end of the world, where becoming a man - in this changing landscape - seems impossible.
