Larry Shouppe
People had urged Thomas to go west even as Thomas Shoupe was set on going to North Carolina in 1845. Those that he had talked with during his journey from New York down along the Eastern edge of the Appalachian Mountains said that there was good land for a young man to prove up in the west. George and Archibald Mull had been talking of heading west to open a store in the Oregon Territories. hey had been in contact with a shipping company that sailed out of Charleston, South Carolina. They shipped to Central America and carted items to the Pacific side to be taken on to California and Oregon. George and Arch decided to travel with Thomas on a cross country covered wagon trek and had made in to within a day or so of Independence, Missouri.
