In his account, the author's wish is not to inspire pity for the horrendous ordeal he has endured, gripped by the crippling pain of severe rheumatism throughout his adolescence, but rather to share with the reader how he bore his burden while maintaining hope for an eventual cure. He and his parents had placed their trust in mainstream medicine as well as those who, in Africa, call themselves healers, but the reader will discover how, and thanks to whom, the illness was eventually overcome. The author wishes to share his story in order to comfort sufferers of all kinds, and to offer them hope and inspire them to endure.
