Suffolk County, the second largest county in New York State, is a very diverse place, both geographically and culturally. Home to 1.5 million people, it features waterfront villages on the north and south shores. On its eastern end, it is also a vacation paradise for thousands every summer. Much has changed over time in Suffolk County--new highways have been built, historic buildings and sites have been obliterated, and housing developments and shopping centers of all types and sizes have sprung up.
