Cody Emerson was dealt a bad hand. In the late summer of his third year, he was diagnosed with cancer. While most of the neighborhood kids were squeezing every moment of fun out of the last days of August, Cody began the long, painful visits to the medical center for treatments. When the doctors felt sure the cancer was defeated, it cowardly went and hid behind Cody's eyes. The cancer and Cody's vision died long slow deaths. During the lengthy drives to hospital his father would tell him stories of a courageous young prince, Cody the Confident, that lived in a faraway land. Prince Cody was stout and honorable. His adventures with his broadsword and his faithful steed, Thunderclap, became the substance of legends-- all created in the mind of a young boy struggling with his health and his blindness. Cody's life was as normal as could be expected considering his limitations... Until he entered the eighth grade. A series of strange vibrant dreams about a far-off kingdom began to convince Cody Emerson that Cody the Confident was extraordinarily real. Destiny had gripped two boys from different worlds and was accelerating them towards a dramatic collision, where one world's fate would be decided. Bruce E.
