Effective communication is at the heart of leadership. The Communication Styles for Leaders survey is easy to take and will provide you with a description of your strongest communication style or your communication preference. A deep understanding of your style will enable you to play to the strengths of your style and be conscious about mitigating your weaknesses. We all have weaknesses regarding our communication style. The key is understanding how your weakness can get in your way and strategizing how to avoid our communication pitfalls. You can also use this survey to better understand the diverse communication skills of the members of your team or workgroup. You will learn through this survey that people communicate very differently. The key leadership question then is "How do I use my communication differences as assets and not have them become liabilities?" Leaders need to be able to use the many communication gifts that their people bring to the table and not let their differences get in the way. We have worked with hundreds of teams and groups and have found that a team can go downhill quickly when communication breaks down. People start making assumptions about each other (usually negative ones), judge others' intentions, and begin to debate the issues rather than using dialogue and inquiry to discuss them. In short, it gets messy and ugly fast. This Communication Style survey will help you gain insight into the complexity of communication and learn how to leverage this knowledge to build a great team.
