Shocked, sad, confused, and angry. That's how Lanie and her friends felt as they stood at the top of the hill looking down at their ruined town. The buildings are piles of rubble, dead bodies litter the streets, and their homes have been reduced nothing but ash. Life for seventeen year old Lanie and her friends had never been normal. They all have special powers ranging from teleporting, to shapeshifting, to mind reading. Their whole lives they'd used their powers to play, joke around. But all that changed in a single weekend. Returning from a music festival, the teens find their home, Green River Island has been invaded. Their families and friends are gone, their homes destroyed, their lives in shambles. Alone and scared they must learn to use their powers to keep themselves alive instead of just for entertainment. For Lanie teleporting in a game of hide and seek is over. Bruno's comedic shapeshifting becomes a tool against the enemy, while Lizzie's premonitions become essential to the group's survival. The rest of the group consists of Jade, a gun-loving mind reader, quick thinking Jabari, invisible Caleb and Riley who eavesdrops on future conversations. As buildings are blown up, and terrifying encounters with the enemy are endured, this group of teenagers turned vigilantes argue, get jealous, fight over power, and surprisingly fall in love. Their bonds of friendship are tested and some will die.
