This has been a real adventure into the Tieken genealogy with new discoveries over just the past 12 months. We know now that there are three groups of Tieken's all originating in the County of Oldenburg, Germany, once called Prussia, and in the city of Varel. There will be more on the history of Oldenburg near the end of the book. So, we have the Coatsburg, Illinois; Fayette County, Texas and Waco, Nebraska Tieken's all related to each other as this book will show. The original Tieken immigrants from Oldenburg went to these three locations within a ten-year period starting soon after our American Civil War was over. They were all farmers so they were well educated in this occupation before coming to America. They arrived, purchased land or existing farms and went to work.
