Three Children
Marian Klapperich
This book provides a window into a small period of time during the early part of the twentieth century; describing the lives of three children who were orphaned when their mother died. They were then raised by godparents, each in separate homes. When the youngest was five their father came back to the original homestead and decided to raise them on his own. The book covers their adjustment to siblings and a father who had not been a part of their lives, to a new community, and the isolation of living in an area of abundant natural beauty. The setting is a community, directly east of Lake Winnebago; an area in southeastern Wisconsin now referred to as "The Little Holy Land" because many of the towns are named for Catholic Saints or biblical themes. The story is a narrative that focuses on the daily lives, adjustments, and skills Karl, Joe, and Milly acquired during this brief time in their formational years.
