Unimportant People

Unimportant People is a fictional book that has a strong sense of authenticity. It is a story of several people who each leave ex-Yugoslavia in the early 1990's due to the war starting in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They move to different countries around the world in search of a better life. The story also follows some who stay in Bosnia during the conflict. Who is better off? The sense of family and old roots are strong, but the quest for a better life includes abandoning some, if not all, of their traditions and embracing new ones. The story is about six different characters, who are not dissimilar to ordinary people we meet in everyday life. Some of them are followed in their struggle in a new country while other characters are accompanied in their misfortunes through the war in Bosnia. This is a simple story of love, friendships, youth and old age. It is a story about war and everyday life, what the war brings, and how much it takes. Some readers might find deeper meaning beyond the pages of this book, but some may not. Neither will be at a loss, as a result.
