In a haunted city like Loburn, and where midlife brings about an assault only likened to a full life those with an advantage of age think that they've seen it all. But as Dr. Mali is about to find out, stereotypes, societal norms and an erratic history fazed by the unpredictability of the present is but a nemesis of what he's had to take in life as lessons. And when he finds himself straddled between conflicting traditions and a burgeoning love of alien races, he's convinced that dousing the flame of having to marry his favourite granddaughter to an illegitimate foreigner is but a gesture of nobility. But what ends up as a classic case of wanton betrayal and deceit, he can only watch the erosion of a life he'd hoped to build challenging everything he ever believed in.
