These burlesque girls and women became sex symbols and quickly appeared in modern men's magazines all over the world. They entertained soldiers in World War 1 and 2. The magazines found their way under beds and stashed in closets and cubby holes of countless men and women. The feminism movement claimed they destroyed women's morality. The Gibson Girls, Vargas Girls, Petty Girls and countless others were seen by men as being an inspiration. Well known artists such as Earle K. Bergey, Enoch Bolles, Gil Elvgren, George Petty, Rolf Armstrong, Duane Bryers, Peter Driben, Olivia De Beradinis and Art Frahm to mention a few were made famous with their art and talent.
