The Next Ridge is a western novel set in the 1850's. Jake left home as a young man because of youthful curiosity and spent many years 'looking around'. Upon his return, he found his father dead and the ranch in trouble. His boyhood nemesis had plotted against his father in order to acquire his property. Jake had gained skills while he was gone that made it very difficult for the two adversaries to succeed. With the help of his two friends he prepared to make it impossible for them to accomplish their goals.
