The First World War had a disproportionately large impact on the small farming communities of Britain. Entire villages lost their menfolk, as they volunteered or were called up, and each paid the price in blood. Shinfield was no different, as evidenced by the 28 names on the memorial. These men came from many different backgrounds, served in different branches of the services, and died in locations thousands of miles apart, but all had Shinfield in common. This book is their story.
