Living According to God's Plan is about the relationship between a mother and daughter. Although Linda never questioned her dad's love, she was never sure if her mother loved her. My mother died when I was three. I never had a mother," replied Loraine, Linda's mother. When Linda's dad gets Alzheimer's, it puts even more strain on the mother/daughter relationship. To say that the Drummonds were a good Catholic family would be a stretch of the imagination. It's not easy to live according to God's plan, especially when it differs from our own plan.
