When ten-year old Laura Finneran returns home from school and learns that her beloved golden retriever, Guy, has died, she is inconsolable. She wonders if her best friend still exists somewhere and what his new life might be like. Laura's sympathetic parents try to comfort her with reassuring words that Guy is in a place called Doggie Heaven, but Laura remains skeptical.
