When tragedy strikes at home, reserved pre-law student Natasha Rindahl escapes the chaos by traveling to Norway, the country her parents are from. It is here that she meets the kind and quirky Hargraves Family, who encourage her to write about what had driven her to Norway. Natasha had barely spoken to her friends from high school the entire duration of her freshman year of college. However, when she returns home at the beginning of the summer, she is quickly drawn back into that social circle by her friend Lucy. As the summer progresses, dark secrets are brought to light about the year that Natasha was "MIA". She learns that Lucy had been abused by her ex-boyfriend, Connor, and that even though she is no longer with him, she is far from being out of the woods. Through her writing, and through her time with the Hargraveses, Natasha comes face to face with her fears, her failures, and her responsibilities. She learns what she must do to be a good friend, to be an ethical person, but will she find the courage to do it?
