The Only Thing I Own Is My Name
Daniel E Josipovich
For millennia people of the world have lived under tightly ruled conditions leaving only the dregs of life for the citizenry. After the democracy of the United States of America was formed peoples everywhere wanted to partake of the freedom that was available under a democracy. The man in this story was only one of the millions who flocked to America to live freely and benefit from their own labor. At first the rumors of this great country weren't believable and he dismissed as fairy tales. Then, as the rumors became factual statements his desires for a better life ignited. United States was well into it's industrial revolution. We had the raw material. Now we needed the workforce of people. Through a unique ability he earned enough money to come to America and begin life anew at the age of sixteen on July 3, 1911. What he learned and how he learned it has bettered the lives of four generations of family and hopefully many more. This is his story.
