Problem solving is not just for mathematics. Language arts class also instructs students to find solutions to the issues in reading, writing, word usage, and grammar. Both subjects help learners to apply problem-solving skills to life situations "not to merely survive, but to thrive and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style" (Maya Angelou). The CHALLENGE: Solving Problems in a Language Arts Class promotes education, encourages cross-curricular activities, and provides mini-lessons that connect mathematical concepts with language terms.
