From Aguirre to Zipes Lois C Henderson

Who better than a retired librarian and educator, with an Honors degree in English (Literature) and an M. A. in General Linguistics, to write meaningful and relevant reviews of a wide range of books, stretching from works on Folklore and Fairy Tales to texts on Language, Philology and Literature? This collection of book reviews crosses a vast range of genres in its scope. and is ideal for resource centers and libraries. Most of the reviews have already appeared on the websites BookPleasures.com, or the New York Journal of Books. Each of the reviews is given in its original format, with the addition, space allowing, of short excerpts from the books to whet the appetite of those who are interested in acquiring the specific texts. Of the 261 book reviews contained in From Aguirre to Zipes, 69 have been quoted, either in full or in part, on the related authors' or publicists' sites. Each of the quotations is indicated in a different color to the main text, in order to indicate which portions of the reviews were seen to be the most capable of drawing the attention of prospective readers. The highlighting of the quoted portions should prove useful to those who are in the business of promoting books, whether their own or those of others. Several useful indexes are provided to the authors, editors, compilers, illustrators, translators, titles and publishers. In addition, thumbnail illustrations of the cover of each book are included for easy identification of the texts in question. The book ends with a few author interviews that reflect the way in which such interviews can be structured. In short, the work should prove a handy introduction to the online book reviewing world, and could be used to supplement existing primers at college and secondary school level.
