Once in a while a poem is written which comes from so deep within the heart that it will touch you, no matter where you are or how hardened to life you've become. My Dad, Sergeant Conner, is one of those poems. It is written through the eyes of a child, who wishes for his dad to come home from overseas, but with the mature perspective that he is doing good things and is needed elsewhere in service of his country. It is filled with the simple pleasures a son gets to experience with his father, without the merest hint of disappointment at the short moments they share or the inevitability of departure once again.
