Math That Makes Sense Book Two
Cammie Newmyer
A wise young student of mine told me, "We need more efficient algorithms in math." This brilliant thinker, who lives with autism, is right. I agree that it is time to introduce students to more efficient algorithms and to demonstrate to students Math That Makes Sense. It is time to de-mystify math instruction and allow our students to work smarter not harder to encourage our problem solvers to remain in STEM fields so they can compete in the technology rich, global economy of the future. Math That Makes Sense Book Two presents the topics of multiplication facts and divisibility rules, fractions, decimals, roots, solving equations, inequalities, probability, volume, graphing lines in standard form, translating English into math, multiplying terms, multiplying polynomials, factoring trinomials and effective math study skills. Ms. Newmyer completed her undergraduate education with a double major in mathematics and social studies with an emphasis in secondary education from Adams State University in the year 2000. She also completed her graduate degree in mathematics from the University of Houston in 2010. Ms. Newmyer has been teaching mathematics at the secondary level since 2000. She began teaching at an alternative education campus in Colorado in 2010. Ms. Newmyer's profession passion is equity in STEM education. She has given presentations to STEM educators about equal access to STEM for all students with an emphasis on alternative approaches for involving at-risk students in STEM.
