When the followers of Jesus observed how often the Master took time to pray and then saw the results of his praying, they asked, "Lord, teach us to pray." He did not answer with a lecture on the virtues or prayer. Instead, he prayed and told them to do likewise. The Lord's Prayer is one of the first things Christians memorize in their homes and churches. In fact, "saying" the Lord's Prayer becomes so habitual the profoundly important meanings of its phrases are lost. This little book is an exploration of the sentences in this universal prayer, and is written with two goals in mind: that the reader will never pray the prayer mindlessly again, and that in opening up the meaning of Jesus' words the reader will experience a closer, more personal walk with God.
