Humanity has had to persevere over many different times of chaos and darkness, but has it ever survived a time when the undead roam the earth? Not even a full year has passed since that dreadful day when the United States, and the world, changed forever. Vicious, sickening smoke clouds have mutated humans into flesh-eating creatures wearing the decaying faces of friends and family. The weather is hot and muggy year-round and modern society has vanished. In the midst of all this, Gary Nillon, is willing to protect those he cares about at all costs while fighting to not allow this apocalypse tear away his humanity. With the mysterious and questionable departure of his group's leader, Harold, Gary suddenly finds himself in charge and responsible for their group of five. A former rock star, he knows he's not taken seriously, but being the odd man out is nothing new to him. Now it's his chance to prove he's just as capable in the wilderness of Wyoming as he was onstage-except the consequences for failure in this brutal landscape is death. Unfortunately, it doesn't take long before Gary's pledge to keep his group safe is tested. In this new world where ruthlessness rules the day and allies can easily become enemies, how will Gary prepare them all for the sacrifices yet to come?
