When paralegal Fiona Wilson is assigned to locate and recruit retired engineer Dan Foster to help identify the cause of a fatal disaster at a power station in Hong Kong she doesn't realise that the assignment will change her life completely - and forever. Foster has unique knowledge that could solve the mystery but he is reluctant to return to a world that he thought he had put far behind him. Wilson persuades him to overcomes his reluctance by telling him that an old colleague was killed in the accident and another is being held under house arrest by the People's Republic of China until the cause of the disaster has been firmly identified. Several other experts have tried to discover the cause, but they have all concluded that the mystery can be solved only with detailed knowledge that Foster alone possesses. In spite of his severe reservations, he agrees to help. As his investigation progresses, he uncovers a web of deceit and corruption. He realises what happened, but when he reports his findings to his client he is horrified to be told that the truth must not be revealed to the Chinese authorities. Worse still, he is told that the same danger threatens another power station, and this time the outcome could be a global catastrophe. The only way out of the morass is to embark on a dangerous subterfuge. Far Point is illuminate by the author's detailed knowledge of the power industry around the world - an industry that underpins the fabric of modern society. The story is set in the UK, Hong Kong and mainland China around the end of the 20th Century.
