After two years on the run from the tyrant Merek, Prince Mark completes his quest and reaches the Athalan court. Yet despite King Edward's offer of help, he encounters new difficulties. The nobles are reluctant to support him, and many question the prince's ability to lead an army. Amidst the shifting politics of the royal court, Mark must discover whose authority counts, and more importantly, whom he can trust. Meanwhile, far away in Orrenda, dark clouds are gathering.
