This book contains the letters written by Bud Hassenstab during his Army career, primarily to his sister Edna. These letters cover the timeline from Bud's time in basic training to his discharge and return to his hometown in January of 1946. His letters provide insight into the life of being trained and then being a drill instructor for replacement troops. The reader will get a sense of what was truly important to life of a new soldier. The letter's from Bud's time in European Theater of Operations also tells of his encounters with the French civilians after D-day, experiences in battle, and then life in Europe after the end of the war, including those conditions that lead to the onset of the Cold War. For a student of WWII history, these letters provide another perspective on what was important to the average soldier.
