Two thousand years ago we lost our way. Now what we have are secrets, greed, mayhem and murder. I, Pendyse Ra'Vell, am the last of my family, and today I may end as well. What I am about to do is forbidden, if I am caught, everything is forfeit. But I see no other way. I am, God Willing, going to Telling Tree, alone not at a public time of Telling, but by myself. If I make it through the ring of death maybe I can learn who killed my brother Pelldar. And why I am the last Ra'Vell, and when will they come for me. I must find out what they are after before it is to late. Our ward, Mark, depends on me. Ra'Vell Island depends on me. We have our own secrets to keep and if those become known, what would follow is too horrible to think.
