Peacocks are important in Indian culture and are found in various temple arts, poetry, folk music, mythology and cultural traditions, and was declared the national bird of India in 1963. Peacock rangoli designs are a part of many Indian festivals such as Diwali, Dussehra, New Year, Onam, Pongal and many others. Rangoli is the expression of art through color.
