On December 16, 1944, the mad man, Adolf Hitler launched a massive counterattack against Allied forces who were freezing their butts off in the Ardennes Forests of Belgium. We were caught totally off guard when more than a quarter million crack German troops and hundreds of high quality tanks descended upon our positions. The German offensive was led by the elite XLVII Panzer Corps. Hitler had launched his final gamble on these snow-covered forests. They thought the inferior, non-master race Americans would just rollover and give up. But we stopped them cold in small forgotten towns and many unknown battles.
