When Dash Miller remakes his bedroom into a 3D dragon land, it comes to life in places. Tiny dragons appear who are seeking a lost dragon. Dash and his two cousins set about helping the dragons find their missing companion and they do, happily in residence upstairs in Dash's barn. Their friend is Lydia, the ancient queen of Draghla, although they don't know it at the time. Forces through time have led her to Dash, and Lydia has been coming and going for a long time. She has bided her time, waiting for him to grow up. She can't wait anymore, however and when Krank and Lulu come to find her, she decides it's time to recruit Dash and some strong humans to help her stop a war. It's a task Dash is not sure he can really understand, let alone accomplish, but he agrees to help her. His cousins are willing to lend a hand also, but things get deep and dark all at once, as if their enemy knows how to harm them in the worst ways. There is not much of a way out and so many angry enemies are always trying to get to them. Dash's magic and Lydia's powers are just enough to protect them, they hope. But always testing, always breaking mental windows, always doing harm designed to weary and frustrate them, their enemy is cruel and unpredictable. They cannot find him however, so they battle single or small groups of dragons on and on and on. A deep love between ancient dragons and humans is their only hope and Dash clings to it with all his skills and magic. If he can reach the dragons and their old souls, erase old memories and horrors, they have a shot. Meanwhile, with Lydia's ability to be both dragon and human, she is able to connect with both species. Dash and Lydia fall in love, but time is never on their side, and neither are many dragons. With Dash and his family's involvement now a major factor, their enemies ramp up their efforts. Earth is now a full target, rather than an occasional mouse to be toyed with. In over their heads and seeking air and clarity, Dash and Lydia are stymied at every turn. There is hope... always hope. Then there is love. Great praise for The Vengeance Factor: ... There is humour, a little bit of romance, but mostly adventure, where a 14 year old is the hero. It flows easily and the pace keeps you reading.
